The concert was amazing, a million thanks to all those who came out and supported our efforts. We earned $3000 USD in 4 hours for Half the Sky Children’s Orphanage in Beijing. It was truly a unique, one-0f-a-kind event, something we would love to do again and again. The bands, the audience and the venue all chipped in and helped out, so once again I say thanks!
Here is a great video of some of the event from China Radio International’s Jonathan Alpert and his Sound Stage show.

David O’Dell, one of the earliest supporter’s of Chinese punk rock is returning to promote his latest book and support a children’s charity in a fun and unique way!
Join us and some influential musicians as we take a journey through the history of Chinese punk rock and support Half the sky, an amazing children’s charity.
This event is unlike any other punk rock concert you’ve been to or heard about. On the 11th I’ll be hosting a book presentation for “Inseparable” the definitive history of Chinese punk rock. This is not just me talking, you’ll see rare photos and listen to rare unreleased versions of Chinese punk rock at its earliest.
After the talk you can browse the auction tables filled with rare Chinese punk rock memorabilia (as seen below). A percentage of all tickets sales as well as all proceeds from the auction and book sales go to charity. Items like Brain Failure’s first ever demo tape, a pink 7-inch vinyl album of the wuliao jundui bands before they were signed to Scream Records, and of course plenty of autographed rare items from the bands themselves.
During the auction item preview, take a step back in time and watch a digital photo exhibit of the earliest Beijing punk rock bands featuring the works of Katherina Hesse and others.
Yes there are bands! The show opens with three younger bands, Discord, Flyx and Rustic who have proven themselves to be up to playing with some of the greats of Chinese punk rock. Witness an intimate unplugged performance by Gao Wei, the lead singer of Underbaby, the band that put Chinese punk rock on the map in the 90’s. This would not be a true reunion without Catcher in the Rye, China’s earliest pop punk band with a decade long following! From the roots of chinese punk to the rude boys of Chinese oi, Misandao is next on deck showing their chinese skinhead brand of hardcore and ska. We revive a decade of mosh pits as Anarchy Boys blaze the stage with their hardcore fueled ska-punk and Shen Yue’s showmanship.
The show is not just inside, throughout the day there will be food vendors, arts and crafts and our celebrity guest DJ’s who will be spinning punk rock playlists filled with Chinese and Western songs that were the greatest influence on Chinese punk rock. This is a chance to hear the music that the earliest punk bands held closest to their hearts.
At midnight DJ Shen Yue will be throwing down sick deep house and techno until late. A portion of the ticket price to see the bands, the photo exhibit, the auction, the book talk and the DJ’s goes to charity! So come on out and experience more than just another beijing punk show, come out and learn about a musical revolution all while helping China’s orphans.
These are items were sold at our Beijing punk rock charity auction for Half the Sky. This charity auction took place on August 11th, 2012 at 2Kolegas. The auction earned over 5000 RMB for the charity, with several bands giving their money and other organizations such as Gung Ho Films matching funds.
